Large backup size discrepancy
  • Hi there,

I have just imaged a new server I've set up using Winclone Pro 3.3. In Finder, the Bootcamp partition reports that it has about 35gigs used. Winclone sees it as the 127.83GB partition it is (it's an SSD).

When I create an image with Winclone, it all works and reports success, but the file is only 3.99GBs (both the .winclone and the .boot.img.gz) files.

I've done this twice, both images finish successfully, at 3.99GB.

The machine has 16GB RAM, and is a clean install. Is it possible that Winclone doesn't backup Page files and that's what's taking up the space on the drive? I read somewhere that Windows server needs approx 1.5x the physical RAM capacity for the Pagefile...

I'm copying the image to HFS+ Journaled volumes, so the 4GB file limit shouldn't be the problem (although I did wonder given it stops at 3.99!!).

    Thanks!
    John
  • It sounds like you are hitting the file size limit of FAT32, though you are saving to HFS+. I would be try a test restore to an image to see if everything is ok:
