We have been married for 7 years and have known each other for 13 years.  We met in Washington, DC and fell in love among the cherry blossoms.  After working together in the South Pacific for 2 years, we moved to California and were married.  We have lived in Long Beach for the last 4 years and

About Cathy (by Tim)

When I first met Cathy, what struck me the most was how smart she was and how passionate she was about social issues.  She is a warm and caring person.  Since James came into our lives, she has flowered into a great mom.  As a stay-at-home mom who works a few hours a week from home as an environmental consultant, she spends most of the day laughing and playing with James.  She is a great role model for kids.  She will spend lots of time holding, snuggling and nurturing our next baby.

About Tim (by Cathy)

What first attracted me to Tim was his experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific.  I was impressed that he was willing to give of himself to help others, and I was fascinated by his cross-cultural experiences.  Since then, my love for him has grown.  He is so great with our son James, our nieces and nephews, and the neighborhood kids.  He’s always the favorite “grown-up” because he loves playing with kids and playing kid games.  We are so lucky that his job at Apple as technical support for the higher education sales team allows him to have a home office, so that he can spend lots of time with the family.

About James

James fills our house with laughter and fun.  He is a sweet and loving boy, who is into swimming, baseball, playing doctor, books, biking, and playing with our dog Rowdy.  He is always up for fun with his friends and cousins.  He is becoming a “big boy,” wanting to do things for himself, which can have the effect of making us slow down!  James is looking forward to having a little brother or sister, who will be “his friend forever.”

Our Hobbies and Interests

Before becoming parents, we were lucky enough to visit many places throughout the world, and to live the island life in the South Pacific.  We have traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, the Grand Canyon, the Midwest, and parts of California since James was born.  We want our children to have a broad view of the world, so we will share international culture, music, food, and friends with them.  Close to home, we spend time swimming, biking, going to the park, flying radio-controlled airplanes, and walking Rowdy around the neighborhood.

Parenting

We both believe strongly that children thrive on love and encouragement.  Cathy is a stay-at-home mom, and Tim works out of the house, so our children will get tons of love and attention.  We believe that it is important to respond to a child’s needs in a loving, thoughtful, and age-appropriate manner and to always remember to have fun!

love our home and community. We were blessed by James’ birth 3 years ago.  Our lives center around our family: swimming, vacations, meals on the patio, sleep-overs with cousins, and so much more.
